Treating Somatic Expressions of Trauma in Experiential Play Therapy
This workshop will demonstrate the instinctive trauma responses in animals then demonstrate the same responses in traumatized children’s play therapy. Trauma is experienced as energy that has not been discharged. Participants will learn how to facilitate this needed discharge by learning the 4S phases of traumatic recovery.

Mark Ferriegel MA LPCC ATR DAPA
Mark is the educational coordinator of The Community Lighthouse, a Diplomat in The American Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Art Therapist. He has extensive training in Jungian Sandtray, and Experiential Play Therapy. This workshop was presented at the Colorado APT conference in 2010, and in the Play Therapy International World Conference in Morocco in 2010. It will be presented in the National APT conference in Oct. in Louisville, and Mark will be co-keynote speaker in the 2011 Colorado APT Conference.
Objectives
Participants in this Workshop will learn.
How to identify instinctive responses to trauma as demonstrated in animals.
How to identify parallel trauma responses in childrens' Play Therapy.
How to facilitate Norton’s somatic healing stages.
The three academic hours earned in this workshop meet the requirements towards application for Registered Play Therapist and Registered Play Therapy Supervisor. Participants will earn 1 hr. in methods, 1 hr. in theories, and 1 hr. in application to special populations. The Community Lighthouse is a CEU approved provider for The Association For Play Therapy #10-281, and the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board #0102791.
